Graduate Advanced Diploma in Computer Science

The course
The Graduate Advanced Diploma in Computer Science is a 4-semester course designed for candidates from a non-IT background. The course provides a thorough knowledge of IT in general and will provide the individual with the necessary academic and technical skills to face the current industry. There is a strong IT theme running throughout the course and an opportunity to build on existing technical competencies to an advanced level. The course will help the student to achieve specialisation from specific vendor certification programmes and, upon successful completion of the 4 semesters, will lead to top-up degree.

Learning outcome

The learning outcome of the course is to equip candidates with the necessary abilities to analyse the complex and interacting issues of a real world domain, to identify and be capable of analysing alternative approaches to address these issues, and to select the most appropriate approach on the basis of experience and disciplined thought.

Profile of candidate

The course is designed for individuals who wish to build on their IT skills whilst being introduced to a range of topics including database, customer support, network administration, hardware and software, business, management & technical, which will equip them with the relevant skills and knowledge to manage in real world situation.

the course is also suitable for individuals with a non-IT background who wish to enhance their career opportunities, specifically in the areas of Database, Networking, Customer Support, etc.

The senior Administration have many years of experience in the private tuition market and have brought with them a knowledge that can assist students in most of their individual circumstances. They do this in a helpful and courteous manner, which is part of our College ‘culture’.
Premises
We have the luxury of having ‘superb’ premises in the city and are the envy of our competitors. Students also have the facility to use the computers and the internet.
Class size
Our lecture rooms provide the ideal environment for students to obtain maximum benefit from our tutors’ lectures.  Individual tutors are also available via e-mail to assist students with any queries outside of the classroom.
Finance assistance

Each student will be treated individually, and if financial difficulties do arise, requests to pay by instalments will be given fair consideration

Full time attendance
The full-time version of the programme involves a total of 45 weeks’ full-time study to completion. In addition, prior to the formal start of the programme, Foundation Skills material is available which provides instruction in basic computing skills, such as word processing, for those entrants who have little or no experience in these areas.

At LondonSAM there are currently two intakes for the full-time version of the programme each year. The first cohort begins in mid June. The second commences in mid January. Each of the certificate, diploma, and project stages occupy 15 weeks of full-time study.
Full time attendance

In the certificate and diploma stages 12 weeks are reserved for instruction, self-study, and in-course assessments. Also, in each of these stages a further 3 weeks are reserved for self-study and in-course assignments.

 
Entry requirement
Applicants mus be aged 18 years or over and must provide acceptable proof of competence in English.

Follow-on Course
On successful completion of the Graduate Advanced Diploma in Computer Science programme, this qualification may help to gain entry to the Final Year of Bachelor’s programme.
Assessment fees

There will be an assessment fee of £30 per paper chargeable during the semester exam/assignment submission. If there is a delay or late in paying the assessment fee  then please note that this will incur an additional fee of £10 plus the assessment fee of £30 per module/assessment; however, there will be a grace period of maximum 2 weeks for late payment. The deadline for fee payable will be informed to the students in the induction or in the class room. There will be a separate form must be filled in.

The late fee will be payable except under extenuating circumstances; however, proof and written confirmation must be provided and the final decision will be made by the academic panel.
